As part of our international community, you have for sure considered living abroad for a while. The two internships that our programme offers are a great opportunity to experience what it is like to work and live in a new environment. Whatever your ambitions are – there’s always a location that will match them. Get inspiration from where many of our Hotello’s ended up doing their first placements!

London

Home to over 8.787.92 people and four World Heritage Sites, London is the third largest city in Europe. A city where history collides with art, fashion and great food. The Big Ben, London Eye, Westminster Abbey. All historic places that you have plenty of time to visit while on placement in London. The city is home to many HTH Alumni, so there’s a big chance you’ll run into one of them on the tube to work – or in one of the many great culinary hotspots that London has to offer.

London is a great cultural melting pot. While on placement here you will not only improve your English but also brush up on your Arabic, Spanish, Hindi or Russian.

Barcelona

Barcelona is an incredibly vibrant city, a truly international hub in Southern Europe. Those wishing to improve their language skills will for sure twist their tongues on Barcelona’s home language – Catalan.

The climate and the local customs invite you to visit one of the many wonderful restaurants and (rooftop) bars after work. A perfect day off can be spent visiting the Sagrada Familia or one of the Gaudi buildings and parks. Roaming the lovely neighbourhoods around La Rambla will enable you to practice your Spanish. Take your Spanish friends to the soon-to-open EDITION Hotel or have a snack at the pool deck of Hotel Arts Barcelona. More low key and local are the literally hundreds of great taperias scattered all over the city.

Hong Kong

The fact that Hong Kong has strict internship visa regulations and requires many to dig into their savings does not keep our community away from acquiring work experience in this amazing city. HongKong is the perfect example of a large, corporate, metropolitan city, but it is also a sneaky wolf in sheep’s clothes. English will take you far within the walls of your placement hotel, but not necessarily outside. Putting effort into learning the basics of Mandarin or Cantonese will take you ‘where the locals go’ and gives you the chance to step out of your comfort zone and experience Asia. After a long day, what better way to unwind than in one of the famous spas? We all deserve some TLC! Visit one of the magnificent spas or go on a spree in a high-class shopping mall, one thing is for sure… Hong Kong has it all!

Florence

Buongiorno! Mi scusi. Bene, grazie... Are you also polishing your Italian language skills already? The City of Renaissance with its romantic, stunning and timeless feel make it a perfect placement destination.

Most hotels have translated the city’s beautiful architecture and narrow cobbled streets into their interiors but the real reason that Florence is so popular amongst our students is the food! Whether you are looking to learn all about Italian cuisine (and coffee) or looking for cultural diversity – Florence is your match! Free time needs to be spent as a true Italian – boutique shopping finished off with a great meal with friends. Set your expectations high. You’ll be coming across some great, quality produce, fashionable outfits and delicious dishes.

Paris

Fancy a good croissant just before starting your shift? Paris is idyllic, chic and romantic and named the City of Light for good reason. The city is home to the traditional outlook on hospitality and service can be learned from the absolute pros in the business.

The idea that Paris is only about tradition could not be further from the truth. How about an internship at The Hoxton? Or maybe at the W Hotel Paris? On your days off, venture out to one of the many museums like the Louvre or Musée d’Orsay or take the train to Disneyland Paris to visit your peers on internship there. Of course, don’t leave without a box of delicious macaroons.
