From 14 to 16 March, the Young Hoteliers Summit 2016 took place at Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne. The YHS addressed the latest trends in technology, specifically from an HR and investment perspective, as well as the ongoing disruption in online booking and distribution channels. On behalf of Hotelschool The Hague, our students Jelmar and Sander participated in the challenge. They visited Lausanne together with Mr Fagel. Read about their experiences below:
We left on Saturday night from Schiphol together with Mr Fagel. On Sunday night the programme started with a Welcome Cocktail. The Monday programme consisted out of several panels and key note speakers from hotel brands like Four Seasons & Dorchester Collection.
On Tuesday night the challenge was announced. We had to come up with a concept of decreasing the amount of time between graduating and becoming a GM at Four Seasons from 15 to 9 years. We were divided in groups of 10. Working with such a large group of people with so many different backgrounds was extremely challenging but most importantly a really valuable learning experience. Most teams worked on their concepts till 2am in the morning.
On Wednesday afternoon the challenge presentations were scheduled. The presentations were assessed by Senior Executives from the corporate HQ of Four Seasons. And Sander's team won the challenge!
On Wednesday night we ended with a St Patrick's Day themed after party. On Thursday we finished of our trip with a day in Geneva.
All together it was a great experience on both an educational and social level. We met people from 40 different hotel schools and got the opportunity to network with industry leaders!
